GUIDELINES FOR U.S. VETERANS AFFAIRS – INSTALL COMPASS GPS IN CLINICS

Introduction
These guidelines are designed to help Veterans Affairs deploy COMPASS GPS by installation in the clinic.

Precondition
Before COMPASS GPS can be installed, you should make sure that Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework or newer is installed on the computer.

For Windows 7 and 8, we recommend that you upgrade to Microsoft .NET 4.5.1 Framework. You can download the upgrade by means of the following link:

Deployment in the clinic

Install COMPASS GPS on a clinic computer by following these steps:

  1. Insert the COMPASS GPS CD into the clinic computer DVD Drive.
  2. Browse to the contents of the COMPASS GPS CD by clicking on STARTComputerDVD RW Drive or by selecting “Open Folder to View Files” when prompted by the computer AutoRun feature.
  3. Select the file Install.cmd. The installation starts.It is very important that you select Install.cmd, since this file ensures that COMPASS GPS is installed and configured according to the U.S. Veteran Affairs guidelines.
  1. The installation program automatically checks whether your computer fulfills the prerequisites. All prerequisites must be fulfilled before the installation of COMPASS GPS can start.

    If some of the prerequisites are not fulfilled on the computer, a list of the missing software is automatically displayed. See illustration to the right.

    Select the Install button, and the necessary software is automatically installed.

  1. When the prerequisites are fulfilled, you are ready to begin installing COMPASS GPS.

    Select Next to start the installation.

    The installation does not need further input from you. You are notified when it is completed.

  1. When the installation of COMPASS GPS is complete, the Completed dialog box is displayed.

    The Widex USB Link driver installation is now ready to start. The Widex USB Link driver is needed to communicate with Widex hearing aids trough the Widex USB Link.

    Should you not wish to install this driver, uncheck the checkbox before you select Finish. You can always install the driver at a later time. It is located in the Support folder on the COMPASS GPS CD-ROM.

    Otherwise, leave the check mark in the checkbox, and select Finish to end the COMPASS GPS installation and start the Widex USB Link installation.

  1. When the Widex USB link driver installation is ready to start, select Next.
  1. A Windows Security notification will probably be displayed, asking you whether you want to install the software. Select Always trust software from Widex A/S, and then select Install.
  1. When the installation is complete, a dialog box informs you about this. Select Finish.

    COMPASS GPS and the Widex USB Link driver are now successfully installed.
